Ted Steffen DC
CCWP, FICPA, Webster Certified
Dr. Steffen received his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon in 1994. He then continued his studies at Western States Chiropractic College (WSCC) in Portland, Oregon where he earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic in April 1999. While attending WSCC he took many hours of extracurricular chiropractic technique classes and attended Cedar Mountain School of Massage concurrently in order to supplement his chiropractic education.
After completing his studies, Dr. Steffen was an intern at the Tigard Chiropractic Clinic in Tigard, Oregon with Dr. Thomas Erdman and Dr. Terrance Erdman who have a combined clinical experience of over 40 years and have helped PGA golfer, Peter Jacobsen successfully compete for years on the PGA tour.
Dr. Steffen joined Kaufman Chiropractic Clinic in February 2000 and practiced there for seven years. In July 2006 he founded Lake Union Wellness where he practices a chiropractic technique know as Clinical Biomechanics of Posture (CBP), which focuses on postural correction and spinal rehabilitation.
In 2003, Dr. Steffen completed his 120-hour fellowship with the International Chiropractic Pediatrics Association (FICPA), an organization devoted to the care of pregnant women and young children. He is also certified in the Webster Technique, a chiropractic technique that gives the very best care to pregnant women in order to facilitate the biomechanics of a healthy delivery and to decrease stress to the lumbar spine during pregnancy.
In 2005, Dr. Steffen completed the course work for the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician (CCSP) put forth by the American Board of Chiropractic Sports Physicians. He plans on completing the testing for certification soon! The knowledge he acquired during that year has helped him understand how to improve function of the spine and extremities so that athletes can achieve their performance goals. Chiropractic care has become an integrated part of the training staff of nearly every big name athlete (from Tiger Woods to Lance Armstrong to Johnny Damon to Emmitt Smith). Dr. Steffen has had several high performance athletes as patients including a former pitcher from the Seattle Mariners.
Without question, the most exciting program that Dr. Steffen has undertaken is the Certified Chiropractic Wellness Practitioner (CCWP) program that he began in 2006 as taught by Dr. James Chestnut. This is an incredibly thorough examination of the current research regarding how lifestyle choices can affect human physiology. It has now become clear to Dr. Steffen what his role is as a chiropractic wellness doctor. The role of the modern chiropractor is to become an expert on wellness. Dr. Steffen is committed to helping his patients, not only with good chiropractic care, but also with other aspects of health including diet, exercise, strengthening, flexibility and the psychology of getting and staying healthy. After getting his patients pain free and stable, he makes sure that they understand what it takes to maintain their wellness.
Gavan Graham
Dr. Graham grew up in the southeastern corner of Ohio where he lived and worked on his family’s dairy farm. After high school, he attended Ohio University and received his bachelors in Exercise Physiology. At that point he found his path in life when he became a chiropractic patient himself. Seeing the amazing benefits of regular chiropractic care, Gavan decided to attend Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa.
At Palmer, Gavan studied numerous chiropractic techniques. Gavan also became certified in the Graston soft tissue technique, which is a soft tissue technique that focuses on chronic, acute, and postsurgical conditions. After passing all of his National Boards exams and completing a preceptorship with a local chiropractor, Gavan, his wife Jessica, and their two dogs packed up their belongings and move to the beautiful state of Washington.
Joining the Lake Union Wellness team in February of 2010, Gavan quickly adopted the Chiropractic Biophysics technique, which he feels takes chiropractic to the next level. Gavan enjoys treating families as well as self-proclaimed athletes. Being a very active person himself, he has an intricate understanding of common athletic injuries and effective methods of treating them.
In his spare time, Gavan and his family enjoy doing anything outdoor. They can be found hiking, biking , or running somewhere in the Seattle area on sunny weekends.
Dawn
Dawn, our front desk assistant, really enjoys getting to know all of the patients who come into our office. She has a background in art, dance and marketing and enjoys planning social events for the clinic. Most recently she planned a salsa making contest for the patients on Cinco de Mayo. Dawn loves swing dancing and jazz music, so you may hear her influence in our clinic’s selection of tunes. She also has a deep interest in preventative and wellness care especially as it pertains to food and nutrition. This summer she plans on volunteering in a community garden with an organization that teaches youth and families about nutrition and sustainable farming.
